Information for Students

The University Libraries welcome you to UNC, please explore the tabbed links above to find information about your "Common Read" and your main library: the James A. Michener Library.

Information for FYE Instructors

Generally all students in ENG 122 & ENG 123 are given a hands on orientation to library research in one of our computer classrooms. FYE classes are introduced to the space, services and collections of the Michener Library.

We have several options for this library orientation, namely:

Option One: Instructors may choose to use the new online tour at  http://libguides.unco.edu/tour. It covers the major spaces in the building using maps, short text, some photographs and links to additional information.

Option Two: If instructors prefer they may conduct a tour of the library themselves; the file is linked below as a PDF for easy printing.

Option Three: If  an instructor would like to assign (or design) a more complex library assignment they should fill out the library instruction form and select the "Subject Specific Library Instruction".  Please be thorough in your explanation of the planned assignment and we will have an appropriate subject-specialist work with you directly- this might include a tour, help with the assignment, or where appropriate  to the assignment: classroom instruction.
