Call numbers for dissertations, theses, and other student research can be found in the library catalog, accessible by selecting Catalog on the Libraries homepage.

Previous Institutional Names

Our institution has had five names in the course of its history, and when the search string "University of Northern Colorado" is used, it applies only to work done since 1970.  Previous institutional names apply when searching for works from prior dates:

  • Colorado State College - 1957-1970
  • Colorado State College of Education at Greeley - 1935-1957
  • State Teachers College of Colorado - 1911-1935
  • State Normal School - 1889-1911

Understanding Call Numbers

Copies of all UNC publications are in the Michener Stacks.  Older dissertations are also available in microfiche or microfilm.  Archival Services has copies of dissertations, master's theses, specialist in education papers, university publications, and the school yearbook - Cache la Poudre.  Honors papers are in Michener Stacks only.  The general call number for these publications is LB 1840, subdivided as follows:

  • LB 1840 .G744 [date] [author designation] - dissertations
  • LB 1840 .G745 [date] [author designation] - Au.D. (Auditory Doctorate) capstones
  • LB 1840 .G746 [date] [author designation] - undergraduate honors theses
  • LB 1840 .G747 [date] [author designation] - master's theses
  • LB 1840 .G748 [date] [author designation] - specialist in education papers

How to Search

Find student research by known degree recipient OR by research advisor:

  • Under the Books & More tab type the name of the author or advisor
  • If necessary, use the limiters on the left to narrow the results
    • Limit Found In to Author
    • Limit Format to Dissertation/Thesis
Find student research by department, school, or college:
  • Under the Catalog tab type University of Northern Colorado and the name of the department, school, or college
  • If necessary, limit Format (on the left side of the screen) to Dissertation/Thesis
  • NOTE: Departments, schools, and colleges may have reorganized or changed names over time.  Using keywords such as special education, history, reading, etc. and omitting words such as school, college, and department will yield the best results.

Find student research from all departments for a known year:

  • Under the Books & More tab type LB1840 G74[?] [year].  For example, for dissertations from 1990, type LB1840 G744 1990.  For masters theses from 1995, type LB1840 G747 1995.
