Setting Up Your PubMed Account
Do you use PubMed? Then this is for you!
When you go online to PubMed (http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/sites/entrez/), you are not automatically recognized as a UNC student, faculty or staff member. Why does it help to be recognized? If PubMed recognizes that you belong with the UNC Libraries, it gives you an automatic link to our holdings. So if UNC Libraries has the online full text of the article, all you have to do is click…
Below are the instructions of how to make PubMed recognize you as a UNC student, faculty or staff member.
Set up your NCBI Account:

In the upper, right-hand corner look for the “My NCBI Sign-In.”

NCBI will send you an email. You must open this email and click on the link to finish the registration process.
Set UNC as your library:

Sign into My NCBI at http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/sites/entrez/.

On the left-hand blue menu, click on My NCBI (under PubMed Services).
- Click on PubMed Preferences.

Click on Outside Tool.

Click on U.
-
Click on the radio button next to University of Northern Colorado.
- Scroll to the top or bottom of the screen and click on the green SAVE button.

Now, whenever you look at a citation in PubMed you will see this button.

Click on this button to determine whether UNC has the full text of the article you are looking for.
