Guide to assist students with Libraries material for the Spring 2022 offering of Theatre in Film

Finding Books in the Libraries

You can find print resources at the UNC Libraries by:

1. Visiting the Libraries home page (https://www.unco.edu/library)

2. Clicking the “Catalog” tab

3. Typing your topic or title into the search box

In order to find a book in the library, you will need THREE pieces of information: location, call number, and status.

Location:

There are two main collections in the University Libraries, the Michener Stacks and the Skinner Music Library.

Call Number:

The call number is the “address” of the book in the library. If you find a book in Michener Stacks, the call numbers are arranged:

        A-F on 2nd floor (example: BF456.R2 A86 2013)

        G-Z on 3rd floor (example: PS3525.I5156 A6 2012)

All books in the Michener Reference Collection are on the 1st floor of Michener. All books in the Skinner Music Library are on the 1st floor of Skinner.

Status:

If the status is “available” you can go up into the stacks immediately to find it and check it out. You can also select “request it” and a library staff member will pull it from the stacks and hold it for you. If it is unavailable (status will have DUE with a date) you can still get the item through:

        Prospector:

Interlibrary Loan: https://www.unco.edu/library/services/interlibrary_loan.aspx

We will borrow a book from another library and hold it for you at Michener or Skinner. This is a free service to UNC students!
