Searching for children's books in The Source library catalog

Finding children's books in the catalog can be difficult. To find specific types of children's books, use the tips below.

On the main Libraries site, click Catalog. Enter the subject term indicated below. On the results screen use the limiters on the left side. Limit Found in to Subject and limit Location to Mich Youth (you might have to click "more" to find Mich Youth location).

  • Alphabet books – use the subject term Alphabet
  • Counting books – use the subject term Counting
  •  Pop-up books, books with lift up flaps or cut out pages, or other novelty formats – use Toy and movable books
  • Wordless picture books – use Stories without words 
  •  Folk literature – use Folklore alone or  with a particular country, area,or group – Folklore Canada, Folklore Africa, Folklore Aztecs
  • Poetry – use Stories in Rhyme for picture books with rhyming text OR Use a topic with Poetry for a poem or collection on that topic – Insects Poetry, African Americans Poetry, Autumn Poetry
