Searching for Music Resources: A Step-by-Step Guide

Find it on the Shelf

Use the call number to help you locate materials on the shelf.

Call number example

This example of a call number, MT 885.W45 J39 2005, is for a music score. Books have similar call numbers. The location Music Stacks means that it is in Skinner Music Library.

Items are shelved alphabetically by the first letter of the call number. (Some call numbers have only one letter. These are shelved first.)

First look alphabetically on the shelves. Once you are in the right area, look by number.

Other music formats will start the call number with the format type, like CD or Videorec. The format type will help direct you to where the item is shelved in Skinner Music Library.
