Promising Future, Complex Past Exhibit Reception

Wednesday, November 20th 4-6pm

Mari Michener Gallery, Michener Library

All are invited to experience the latest traveling exhibit to Michener Library, “Promising Future, Complex Past: Artificial Intelligence and the Legacy of Physiognomy”. This traveling exhibit from the National Library of Medicine explores how cutting-edge technologies and techniques continue an age-old pursuit: to learn about a person’s inner workings from their outward appearance.

UNC Criminal Justice Professor Vivian Guetler will be giving a brief talk on ethical artificial intelligence.

Reception will also include a spotlight on the art show, “AI, Art, and Climate Change” by the students of Dr. Cindy Shellito’s Global Change course. These works use AI to generate art that explores the state of the environment today, tomorrow, and a better tomorrow.

Come by between 4-6pm to enjoy conversation and light refreshments. Dr. Guetler’s remarks will be at 4:30pm.

Event is free and open to the public.
