Bittersweet Harvest: The Bracero Program 1942-1964

This exhibit explores the history of the Bracero Program, which offered Mexican men short-labor contracts to work in agricultural fields and in the railroad industry. Operated from 1942-1964, over 5 million workers came to the U.S. — the largest foreign worker program in U.S. history.
Follow in the footsteps of the braceros as they left their homes, traveled across the border, and performed important, but back-breaking work.

Cosecha Agridulce: El Programa Bracero 1942-1964

Recorra el camino que los braceros tomaron al salir de sus hogares, al cruzar la frontera y al desempeñar labores arduas pero importantes.

This exhibit is open August 22 - October 10, 2025 in the Mari Michener Gallery in the James A. Michener Library. This exhibit is free and open to the public.
