Library Research at UNC: The Guide to Getting Started

Locating course reserves

Watch the video below for instructions on how to search for course reserves using the Libraries website.  If you have any questions about how to access course reserves for your class, you can also contact the library.

Course reserve formats

Electronic Reserve

Electronic Reserve allows you to access course materials online.  Readings selected by your professors are scanned and stored online, usually as PDF files.  As a student enrolled in the course, you have permission to view and print the material.

Print Reserve

Your professor may have an item for class on print reserve.  This includes entire books and media such as DVDs.  Checkout times are set by the course instructor, so some items can be checked out for the day, and other for only two hours.

The staff at the main desk in the library will be able to to tell you how long materials can be checked out.

You can pick up your reserve items at the Main Desk in Michener Library.

You can pick up music reserve items at the Skinner Music Library.
