Research Data Support on Campus

Units across campus support various aspects of research data management. Listed below are several of those units and the types of activities they support.

  • Office of Research & Sponsored Programs (ORSP)
    • Support for understanding and meeting grant and funder requirements regarding research data
    • Compliance, including the Institutional Review Board (IRB) and the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC)
  • University Libraries
    • Training and consultation on data literacy and the lifecycle of research data
    • Assistance with data management plans, organizing and preserving research data
    • Finding existing data in repositories and reuse of data
  • Information Management & Technology
    • Support for special data computing needs as relates to software, storage, security, equipment, and more
  • UNC Data Resources
  • Research Consulting Lab
    • Free consultation on research and survey design, data collection and management, data analysis, and reporting of results
    • Run by the Department of  Applied Statistics and Research Methods (ASRM) with consultants that have extensive training in applied statistics and research methods, and both quantitative and qualitative research
  • Social Research Lab
    • Consultants for data collection and analysis
    • Market research, focus groups, policy analyses, report writing, program evaluation, phone, mail and email surveys, interviews, needs assessments and quality of life studies
