In the early 1970s, Paul Stewart began collecting memorabilia documenting the lives of African-Americans in American West. In addition to collecting photographs, books, original documents and artifacts, Stewart sought out the people who experienced the West. Stewart conducted a myriad of oral history interviews with a wide variety of pioneers. The oral histories include farmers from Dearfield and Nicodemus, cowboys and miners.
The interviews are being digitized in the Archival Services Department. They will soon be available for the campus community.
