The Hays Picnic originated in 1916 when it was declared by acting President Mr. Hays, that “We are all tired. Let us take a holiday”. Male faculty members would don aprons and makeshift caps to serve the entire college. After which, everyone would participate in sporting competitions. It was an annual event until 1968 when it was replaced by “Hays Days” which took place the weekend before finals.
