Welcome to the inaugural issue of the University Libraries newsletter! Our goal with the newsletter, to be distributed twice a year, is to keep you up to date on all our activities.

For this inaugural issue we start by highlighting what has impacted all our lives this year: the COVID-19 pandemic. Through our archives, we look back at how UNC responded to the 1918 pandemic. In addition to the pandemic, the killing of George Floyd in May 2020 sparked protests and marches for racial justice across the country and the world. Libraries faculty collaborated with UNC’s Chief Diversity Officer, Tobias Guzman, to create a guide to resources focused on diversity, equity, inclusion, and antiracism. The goal of the guide is to bring together a wide variety of resources individuals can use for research, class assignments, personal self-discovery or improvement, and general curiosity. I hope you take the time to explore the wide variety of resources the guide highlights which include books, films, podcasts, and much more.

Additional features in this issue highlight statewide awards won by two of the Libraries staff, and a student profile on how the Libraries have helped them be successful.

I hope you enjoy reading through these stories. And you can expect to hear more from us. We would love to hear from you as well! What are your memories of the Libraries? Send me your memories at jennifer.nutefall@unco.edu.
