Michener Library Building Updates, 2021

by Cat Hildebrand, Library Technician, Collection Services
and Dave White, Head of Collection Services

This issue’s article Forty-Five Years of Dedicated Service and Change talks about changes to Michener Library over the years. We are continuing that tradition! Over the past year, we have moved book stacks, updated the sprinkler system, and recarpeted the first floor. A new multipurpose room is also in the works.

New sprinkler system in Michener Library
The sprinkler system in Michener Library was updated in the basement and lower level, and expanded to include the rest of the building. Shelving throughout the second and third floors was shifted to accommodate the sprinklers and maintain ADA compliance.

Multipurpose room renovations 8/21 and 11/21
Part of the lower level of Michener Library is being renovated. Starting in Spring 2022, the space will function as a Multipurpose Room and will contain 16 tables, 90 chairs, and 25 laptops. The furniture is moveable, so the space can be used as a classroom, a lecture hall, or a meeting room.
